The Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil could benefit people with type 2 diabetes and possibly reduce the risk of developing diabetes according to recent research. A study in Texas found that fish oil was able to increase the body's ability to take up glucose in the presence of insulin, with no adverse effects on overall glucose control. Another study aimed at discovering the long-term effect of Eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester found that the incidence of diabetes was significantly reduced.
Type 2 diabetics produce too much insulin in an attempt to get essential nutrients into the muscle cells. Eventually, the ability to produce insulin is impaired and glucose levels rise to dangerous levels in the blood whilst at the same time, the cells are starved of glucose. It is essential for glucose to find its way into the muscle cells to enable them to function efficiently. Fish oil would appear to help this process although the reasons why are still poorly understood.
Diabetics also have an increased risk of developing heart disease and circulation problems. The role that fish oil can play in counteracting heart disease is now well established. Fish oil contains the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA, in particular EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) can help to lower triglyceride levels and blood pressure, increase levels of good cholesterol, and reduce the risk of narrowing of the arteries by making the arteries and veins more elastic. Some researchers conclude that fish oil can help to prevent cardiovascular disease in diabetics.
There are certain factors known to increase your risk of developing type 2 or adult onset diabetes, including hereditary factors, obesity, and a diet rich in saturated fats. In his book Fats That Heal Fats That Kill, Udo Erasmus claims that diabetics suffer partly from essential fatty acid deficiency and that Omega 3 fatty acids reduce the amount of insulin required by diabetics.Omega 3 fish oils Pure EPA is available exclusively from mind 1st.
