If you want to immediately improve your diet and gain all the amazing health giving properties of Omega 3, one thing you could do right away is supplement your diet with fish oil.
It seems that everywhere we go we are hearing about fish, fish oil and that magic ingredient, Omega 3. Many of the products we find on the supermarket shelves say they have it, not just fish but some eggs, margarine, and other dairy products, even some breads now claim to have it. Health professionals are telling us how we should eat more fish to get it but not too much as we don't want the toxins that come along with it. We are all learning about the remarkable healing properties of Omega 3 via the media; even the government is talking about it and is considering giving it to schoolchildren. So what is it really all about?
The issue here is that we need Omega 3 as without it we die. Not only do we need it to survive, but we need it to help our brains and bodies to function effectively on a daily basis, and the only way we can get it is from our diet, which unfortunately, is severely lacking in Omega 3. On the other hand, most of us are getting far too much Omega 6, and herein lies the problem.
Many years ago when life was simpler and we didn't have processed and convenience foods, our diets contained Omega 3 and Omega 6 in roughly equal amounts. This is no longer the case, and there is plenty of evidence suggesting it is this imbalance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 that is responsible for the rise in heart disease, allergies, inflammatory and auto-immune diseases today.
Oily fish like sardines, anchovies, salmon, tuna, mackerel and herring are loaded with Omega 3 but most of us do not get enough fish in our diets to make a difference. Anyway, the current recommendation is not to eat more than 2 portions of oily fish a week as our seas are polluted and consequently, so are our fish. Some plant sources contain Omega 3 but in much smaller quantities and our bodies are inefficient at converting it. So how can we get enough in our diet?
You can choose to take pure fish oil in a capsule that will give you the Omega 3 that your body craves. However, you must opt for good quality high-grade fish oil as there are a lot of inferior fish oils out there, most of the fish oil on the supermarket shelves for example are very weak and of a very low quality.
What exactly is Omega 3?
Omega 3 fatty acids are a family of essential long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids ALA, EPA and DHA of which ALA or alpha-linolenic acid is the parent. ALA can be found in flaxseeds, some vegetable oils and dark green leafy vegetables. The body is inefficient at converting ALA to EPA and DHA. However, the body can convert EPA to DHA if enough EPA is present in the diet. EPA or Eicosapentaenoic acid is the most important of the omega fatty acids, especially for brain function. This can be found mainly in cold water oily fish and algae.Omega 3 fish oils Pure EPA is available exclusively from mind 1st.
