Recent research suggests that there may be a link between omega 3 deficiency and food allergies. Food allergies in children may even be due to omega 3 deficiency in the mother’s diet.
One study examined the colostrum of new mothers. Infants whose mothers had high levels of omega 6 oils in their colostrum were more likely to develop milk allergies. Infants whose mothers had low levels of omega 3 in their colostrum were more likely to develop allergies to other foods. Although not conclusive, this research suggests that if a mother has an omega 3 deficiency, food allergies are more likely to appear in her infant.
Less than 2% of the population have clinical food allergies, where IgE attaches to the food molecules and causes a reaction. Much larger numbers, however, have various reactions to food products that they identify as allergies, reactions or intolerances. Dietary manipulation is helpful in controlling these reactions.
For instance, some children who exhibit behavioral characteristics of ADHD or autism improve when certain substances are added to or removed from their diets. Omega 3 oils are one of the nutritional substances that seem to help some of these children. We may not know if their behavior is due to a food allergy or an omega 3 deficiency, but we can identify something that helps them.
Omega 3 oils provide an anti-inflammatory response at the cellular level. It may be that the absence of omega 3 fatty acids allows inflammatory responses to develop to certain foods. The most common food allergies among children are to high protein foods, such as milk, eggs, peanuts, soy and wheat. Adding omega 3 oils to the diets of children could prevent these food allergies from developing.
This is all speculative at this point. The evidence that omega 3 deficiency plays a role in the development of food allergy is anecdotal. As more research is conducted, and we learn more about the fascinating roles omega 3 oils play in our bodies, we will develop better answers to these questions. We will be able to make better recommendations for dietary changes and nutritional supplementation with omega 3 oils in pregnant women and children.Omega 3 fish oils Pure EPA is available exclusively from mind 1st.
