Fat, protein, carbohydrates and omega 3 fish oil are all vital nutrients. They are all necessary for growth and development, healing and health and for our very survival. It all gets down to biochemistry. Fat, protein, carbohydrates and omega 3 fish oil are all important for metabolic biochemical functions in our bodies. Without them, we suffer nutritional disorders that threaten our health and survival.
Fat, protein and carbohydrates are the three major nutrient classes. All food contains a combination of these nutrients. We need each one for particular purposes in our bodies.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are our primary source of energy. Carbohydrates may be simple, as in sugars, or complex, as in whole grains and beans. Our bodies convert all carbohydrates to sugar, which we use for energy. Excess sugar is restructured into fat, which is stored for future energy needs.
Simple sugars pass almost directly into our bloodstream, causing us to release insulin so that it can be metabolized. This can cause rapid spikes and drops in both blood sugar and insulin level. When this happens frequently over a long time, the cells sometimes become resistant to insulin, which leads to problems with carbohydrate metabolism.
Complex sugars take longer to be broken down in the digestive system and are released over a longer period of time. This provides a more sustained energy source and more stable insulin and blood sugar levels.
Proteins
Our bodies need protein for growth and healing. Proteins are building blocks. We use them for cell reproduction and repair, to make various biochemical substances and in plasma and lymph. Whereas we use carbohydrates for function (as an energy source), we use proteins for structure.
In times of dire need, we can use protein for energy. The process is inefficient, and we must break down our own tissues to do it. Our bodies only use protein when no other energy source is available. This results in protein energy malnutrition or PEM. Marasmus and kwashiorkor are types of PEM.
We tend to think of PEM as a 3rd world disease, and it is true that about a third of the young children in developing countries suffer from PEM. Five million children under the age of five die each year from PEM.
PEM is also the most common nutritional disorder in the US, however. Nearly a third of poor US children suffer some degree of PEM, and about 10% suffer severe malnutrition. Many fragile elderly people also suffer PEM.
Fats
Fats are used both for energy and structure. Fats are an excellent energy source, with more than twice the energy as either carbohydrates or protein. Fats are also essential building blocks for making tissues and biochemical products.
Omega 3 Fish Oil
One of the important fats we need for cell reproduction and repair and for making substances that fight inflammation is omega 3 fatty acids. Western diets are unlikely to give us all the omega 3 fatty acids we need, and omega 3 fish oil is a good way to supplement our diets.
People in developing countries (and in the US) develop marasmus and kwashiorkor because their diets do not contain enough calories for energy or enough protein for growth and development.
In the same way, people in developed countries develop arthritis, heart disease, irritable bowel disease, and other health disorders because we lack the omega 3 fatty acids we need to fight inflammation and make healthy cells.
PEM—starvation—is the most prevalent nutritional disorder in poor people and undeveloped countries. Inflammatory diseases are the most prevalent nutritional disorder in rich people and developed countries. Adequate nutrition can prevent and cure both.Omega 3 fish oils Pure EPA is available exclusively from mind 1st.
