There are several types of omega 3 supplements. Some of the omega 3 supplements include:
There are also herbal mixtures, fish oil with added ingredients and proprietary blends. In the near future, we may see omega 3 supplements made from genetically engineered bacteria, too.
Although there are probably many different ways to compare omega 3 supplements—including price—there are two important questions to ask when comparing them: what kind of omega 3 EFA’s (essential fatty acids) are in the supplement? And what other ingredients are present.
Do All Omega 3 Supplements Compare? Comparing EFA’s
Different omega 3 supplements have different EFA’s. There are three
main omega 3 EFA’s: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic
acid (EPA) and docasahexaenoic acid (DHA). Some supplements contain only
one isolated type of omega 3 oil.
Omega 3 supplements from animal or marine sources tend to have good levels of EPA and DHA, while omega 3 supplements from plant sources tend to have more ALA.
Do All Omega 3 Supplements Compare? Comparing Other Ingredients
Different omega 3 supplements have different extra ingredients, depending on
the source. These extra ingredients can affect the maximum safe dose
of a supplement, among other things. For instance, cod liver oil has
Vitamins A and D in it, as well as omega 3 oils. Vitaminosis A can
be a problem, so one must take care not to take too much cod liver oil.
Fish oils can also contain heavy metal and pesticide environmental contaminants.
Flaxseed and flaxseed oil contain omega 6 oils, as well as omega 3 oils. Omega 6 oils compete with the omega 3 oils for enzymes that are needed to convert ALA into DHA and EFA.
When you are choosing an omega 3 supplement, take care to ensure that the supplement you choose provides the omega 3 oils that you want, and that it doesn’t have extraneous ingredients that you don’t want.Omega 3 fish oils Pure EPA is available exclusively from mind 1st.
